The latest addition to FTX’s 1/18th range of rock crawlers is the UTAH, an LCG concept chassis, inspired by the latest 1/10th competition rigs and capable of taking on almost all terrain both indoor and out.

The aluminium chassis frame mounts an angled forward biased motor for a super low centre of gravity (LCG).

A servo-on-axle (SOA) design provides sharper more precise steering, while portal axles front and rear help provide maximum clearance over uneven terrain.

Oil filled, adjustable big bore shock absorbers with aluminum caps can be mounted from a wide selection of revised mounting points to suit your terrain. An increased track width, paired with super sticky, oversized block tyres help produce surefooted drivability.

The revised drivetrain, with centred driveshaft handles the Furitek Venom brushless system providing super smooth torque and power, which along with the servo shift, 2-speed transmission provides a jump in speed from rock crawling to rock racing at the push of a button.

Top off with a stealthy, low profile bodyshell, the UTAH is ready to become your go to crawler, anywhere and anytime!

Product Description of FTX FTX5487BL Utah crawler RTR blue

The FTX FTX5487BL Utah crawler RTR blue is a competition-grade 1:18 scale brushless 4WD crawler engineered for precision, agility, and terrain dominance. Inspired by advanced 1/10th rigs, this compact crawler integrates a low centre of gravity (LCG) aluminium chassis with a forward-biased angled motor layout, delivering optimal weight distribution and crawling stability. The stealthy, lightweight body sits low over portal axles and wide comp-spec tyres, enabling the FTX FTX5487BL RC crawler with portal axles to tackle indoor courses and outdoor trails with equal finesse. With a bold blue finish and a feature-rich electronics package, this crawler is built for enthusiasts who demand performance without compromise.

Key features of the FTX FTX5487BL Utah crawler RTR blue

How does the LCG chassis improve crawling performance?

The FTX FTX5487BL with LCG chassis and SOA steering features a forward-biased motor mounted on a lightweight aluminium frame, designed to lower the centre of gravity and improve weight distribution. This configuration enhances stability on steep inclines and uneven terrain, allowing the crawler to maintain traction and control during technical maneuvers. The pinched layout of the chassis also reduces hang-ups and improves clearance through narrow gates, making the FTX FTX5487BL ideal for competitive crawling environments.

What makes the Furitek Venom motor and 2-speed transmission a powerful combination?

The FTX Utah with Furitek Venom motor and 2-speed transmission is equipped with a 3450kv brushless motor paired with a Furitek Lizard Lite ESC, delivering smooth, linear power across a wide range of speeds. The servo-actuated 2-speed transmission allows drivers to switch between low-speed crawling and high-speed trail running at the push of a button. This dual-mode capability makes the FTX FTX5487BL versatile enough for both rock crawling competitions and fast-paced trail adventures, without sacrificing control or torque.

How do portal axles and SOA steering enhance terrain adaptability?

The FTX FTX5487BL RC crawler with portal axles uses high-clearance front and rear axles that elevate the drivetrain above the wheel hubs, increasing ground clearance and reducing torque twist. This setup allows the crawler to glide over rocks, roots, and debris with minimal resistance. The Servo-on-Axle (SOA) steering design places the servo directly on the axle, improving steering precision and reducing linkage complexity. Together, these features give the FTX FTX5487BL unmatched agility and control on challenging terrain.

Why are aluminium shocks and comp-spec tyres essential for competitive crawling?

The FTX crawler with aluminium shocks and comp spec tyres is equipped with big bore oil-filled shocks featuring aluminium caps and multiple mounting options. These shocks can be tuned for compression and rebound to suit different terrain types, from loose gravel to hard-packed dirt. The oversized 68 mm tyres offer aggressive tread patterns and sticky compound grip, ensuring the crawler maintains traction even on slick surfaces. Combined with the wider track width, these components provide the stability and responsiveness needed for competitive crawling.

How does the low profile body improve performance and realism?

The FTX FTX5487BL Utah crawler RTR blue features a stealthy, lightweight bodyshell designed to sit low over the chassis, reducing the risk of rollovers and snagging on obstacles. Hidden body mounts preserve the clean lines of the exterior while allowing quick access to internal components. This design not only enhances the crawler’s visual appeal but also contributes to its functional performance in tight gate sections and vertical climbs. The blue finish adds a bold visual identity that stands out on the trail or competition course.

What makes the drivetrain durable under high torque conditions?

The FTX Utah with brushless system and high clearance axles includes a revised drivetrain with centred driveshaft and full metal gears in both the transmission and axles. This setup is engineered to handle the torque generated by the 3450kv motor, ensuring consistent power delivery without gear slippage or wear. The heavy-duty plastic driveshaft complements the metal gear system, offering a balance of strength and weight efficiency. This drivetrain configuration allows the FTX FTX5487BL to perform reliably under demanding conditions and extended use.

For RC enthusiasts seeking a compact yet capable crawler, the FTX FTX5487BL Utah crawler RTR blue delivers competition-level features in a portable 1:18 scale package. With its LCG chassis, portal axles, brushless power system, and 2-speed transmission, this crawler is built to conquer technical terrain and transition seamlessly into trail racing. The combination of aluminium shocks, wide track width, and low profile body ensures both performance and realism. Buy FTX FTX5487BL with low profile body and metal gears today.
